WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

Obesity is one of the largest public health issues facing England. In Redbridge 24% of reception year children and 36% of Year 6 children are classified as overweight or obese.

The Active People Survey is the largest ever survey of sport and active recreation to be undertaken in Europe. One of the measures is the percentage of adults participating for 30 minutes on 3 or more days a week.

Results from the October 2009 survey show Redbridge adults scoring 19.5% - that places us only 21st best out of 33 areas - another reason why it makes sense to encourage more people to get fitter and healthier.

With these statistics in mind, the Redbridge Sport and Health Team are working in collaboration with partners to develop initiatives and to source funding to help young people and adults develop and sustain a healthier lifestyle to overcome this epidemic.
