Dear Swimmer / Parent /Guardian,

Re-Branding of the Swim Vision Swimming Lesson Programme

We are writing to inform you about an exciting new change to the Swim Vision Swimming Lesson programme at Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre.

Fullwell Cross is a partner of the ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) and we currently deliver all our lessons in line with their Curriculum known as the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) and the National Swim Award scheme. The ASA have now revised their curriculum and have produced a new NPTS which Swim Vision will be working to from the new course commencing 29th June 2009.

The new NPTS is a multi skill programme for swimmers to learn how to swim and be proficient in the water. The skills they gain early on will then lead to them being able to choose in the future to participate in Aquatic sports, Competitive Swimming, Diving and Rookie Lifesaving, all of which are available at Fullwell Cross.

Swim Vision will be revised in accordance with the new NPTS and therefore current class levels and criteria will change. Currently the National Swim Levels are 1-12 and will be replaced with Stages 1-10. Each stage will have its own award and these will be known as National Plan Awards Stages 1-10. Thorough out the stages 1-7 the swimmer will develop the core range of skills required to be competent and safe in the water. Once swimmers have achieved these levels they will move on to stages 8-10 of the scheme where they will be introduced to the elements of Competitive Swimming and further water based skills.

The programme will now be delivered as follows:

Please note that your child will be placed into the correct new “Stage” best suited to their level of swimming by their current instructor for the new course. This will be detailed on the top right hand corner of your re-booking form.

An amended timetable will also be available from reception showing the new stages and the days / times on which they run.

Please make your day/time choices as normal on the bottom of your re-booking form and make a note for yourself of your first choice. We will only contact you if we are unable to allocate your first choice.

If pupils are remaining in the same class the instructor will not note anything on the top right hand corner of your form. You will be able to tell which “Stage” your child will be in for the next course as it will be shown on your re-booking form under the current course details and for this course only the old Swim Vision level and the new Stage will both be shown.

The new NPTS has its own awards scheme and certificates/badges will be available to purchase at reception. Swimmers who are on the current scheme will be able to purchase any badge below their new Stage level if they wish to build up their award collection from the beginning of the new NPTS. “Award Files” are also available to purchase at reception, these are plastic folders specially designed by the ASA with pockets to hold both badges and certificates achieved. The old National Swim awards will not be available to purchase after 28th June 2009. The ASA’s “Rainbow Distance Awards” will continue to be available and have not changed.

This is an exciting opportunity for all students to have fun whilst learning about the fundamentals of swimming techniques and a varied range of water skills. This could also lead to many other exciting water based adventures for your child in the future!

Yours sincerely
