Q2 - When
is it on?
It's run on Monday from 6pm – 7pm at Redbridge Cycling Centre.
Q3 - How
does it work?
You come along each week to a group session and you are weighed. Then
you take part in a workshop on one of our healthy living themes. We will
be giving you lifestyle challenges to do. Then you will be given 2 vouchers
to attend 2 activity sessions over the next week.
Q4 - How
much does it cost?
It costs £6 per week to attend which you'll agree is incredible
value considering it includes two activities. There's also a one-off joining
fee of £6.
Q5 - Is it
delivered by experts?
Yes, you can be reassured you are in good hands. Our instructors are very
friendly and knowledgeable. The thing is, we believe that you have a bit
if the expert in you too and we'll be helping you find the confidence
to develop your own skills and knowledge. All our advice is based on evidence
and knowing what works best for losing weight in a healthy way and keeping
the weight off.
Q6 - What
is the eating plan based on?
We have a double approach to food. We work with the ‘Eatwell Plate’,
which is a tool developed by nutritionists to show you the best balance
of the different food groups you should be eating for optimum health.
We also provide you with a unique daily calorie target, based on your
weight, height and age. This will tell you how much you should eat each
day, because even though we want to help you eat a more balanced diet,
we realize you can still eat too much healthy food and we want to help
you lose weight. We also provide lots of easy to use worksheets to help
you keep track of where you're at.
Q7 - Which
activities can I access?
We have put together a list of activities, which are inclusive with your
weekly Community Fit Club membership. You can choose up to 2 of these
and pick activities, which suit you best. Details available at each session.
They will be a range of classes at Wanstead Leisure Centre, Fullwell Cross
and Redbridge Cycling Centre.
Q8 - I'm
new to activities, which ones will suit me?
Many new members to Community Fit Club haven't done any exercise for a
long time. We always recommend you start gently and build up as your strength
and fitness improve. We offer a wide enough range of activities to suit
all levels and we can help you choose the ones most suited to you.
Q9 - I've
got a health condition, can I still join?
Many health conditions are helped by eating a more balanced diet and by
taking part in regular physical activity. Of course your safety is paramount
to us so we will ask you to fill in a questionnaire about your health.
If you have a condition which gives us any concern at all we will provide
you with some extra information relating to your condition and we'll also
give you a letter to take to your doctor. This letter explains to your
doctor what Community Fit Club is all about and we ask him or her to make
a judgement on whether it is right for you. Your doctor knows you much
better than we do so you must take their advice on this one.
Q10 - Can
I just get weighed and not do any activity?Yes
you can, and you'll still get your activity vouchers but you'll be missing
out on some of the best the club has to offer. We understand that sometimes
you will be busy and will want to go straight away but we hope you will
stay; after all it's your weight loss we are working for.
Q11 - I already
do a lot of walking, can I leave the vouchers and pay less money?
The activities are given free to weekly members as an incentive to be
more active. If you just wanted to get weighed you'd still need to pay
the full £6 each week. Why not use it as an opportunity to try new
things.
Q12 - Is
it for women only or can men come too?
Community Fit Club is for everyone over 16 years of age. We have members
in there 80s so there is no upper limit. We also have both male and female
members and people from different cultural backgrounds.
Q13 - What
age group is it for?
The recommendations are for people age 16 and over. The resource hasn't
been developed with children in mind. If you have a teenager who you would
like to attend, speak to your coordinator and then take our doctors letter
to your GP for further advice.
Q14 - I have
a disability, can I still join?
Yes of course. Our only limitation for you is if you are in a wheelchair
or need a walking stick for support standing. If this is the case we can
refer you to a place (clinic or hospital) where they will have a more
safe way of measuring your weight. We can't take the chance that you'll
fall whilst standing on our scales. We can signpost you to activities
too that are perfect for you.
Q15 - Will
I have to fill out lots of forms?
No, we need you to complete a membership form when you join but we can
help you with it if you find it hard to understand. We also ask you to
complete a survey from time to time. This is in the form of pictures and
should be fun to do. The reason we ask you to do this is so that we can
make sure we're giving you the best service we can. We provide worksheets
each week and some of them encourage you to keep a record of your progress
but these are very easy to use.
Q16 - Why
is there a joining fee?
We provide each new member with a folder and other resources. We'd have
to replace these if you didn't come back so it's the best way of keeping
the programme affordable for everyone.
Q17 - What
happens if I'm late?
You can still come in. If you arrive in time for the weigh in just join
the line, but if you're too late for that then we can quickly weigh you
at the end and you will still get your vouchers but we may not get time
to talk about your progress for long because our instructors will need
to be tidying up the room. Of course we prefer it if you were on time
then it's easier for everyone.
Q18 - How
fast do members lose weight?
We know that some programme promote very fast weight loss but this usually
is not long term and often doesn't teach you anything new. We aim for
1-2lb per week for members depending on how much weight you have to lose.
Everyone is different but we'll help you set targets and break down your
weight loss into sensible chunks so that you have realistic targets to
aim for. 1-2lb per week may not sound like much but how about 4 stone
in a year. I bet you'd happily take a 4 stone weight loss by next New
Year! It's also the best way of sustaining your weight loss. We don't
want you to yo-yo diet.
Q19 - Can
I use my vouchers in other centres?
At the moment the vouchers are only for use in [insert centre] but we
plan to roll out more activities soon and we'll let members know when
we do that.
Q20 - Why
is Community Fit Club not covered on the gym membership?
Community Fit Club has been developed separately and for the moment is
an added cost to the standard membership.
Q21 - I'm
pregnant, can I still join?
When you are pregnant or breastfeeding you actually need to take in more
calories each day to support the extra energy requirements of your baby.
For this reason we don't currently accept pregnant or breastfeeding women
into the club. Many women who have just had a baby want to lose their
"baby weight" quickly but we insist that you wait until at least
your 8-week check and ask your doctor for his or her advice before joining.
Remember, Community Fit Club requires a personal commitment if you are
to get the best from it so you need to be sure you are ready while you
still have a very young baby at home.
Q22 - Can
I give my vouchers to someone else?
No, these are your vouchers to use because we know that regular activity
will help you with your weight loss. There's no reason you can't bring
a non-member to an activity session but they will have to pay the standard
price for the session.
